VMware has released version 17.0.0 of Workstation Player. Player is free software that allows creating and running virtual machines. However, a fee is charged for commercial use. Simply put, it is a simplified version of other VMware products, such as Workstation Pro, Server, and ESX Server. Microsoft Virtual PC virtual machines and Symantec LiveState Recovery disks are also supported. New in version 17 includes a virtual TPM 2.0 module, enabling support for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022, as well as support for OpenGL 4.3 and Windows Display Driver Model 1.2.

  • New Full or Fast Encryption features: You can now choose between security (Full) and performance (Fast) options for encryption.
  • Improved Graphics Support: OpenGL 4.3: Workstation Player now supports OpenGL 4.3 for the virtual machines.
  • Support for WDDM 1.2: Workstation Player now supports WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) version 1.2 for the virtual machines.
