Software Update: Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS

Spread the love

Although the developers of Ubuntu released version 9.04 in April of this year, they also continue to maintain the lts release. Ubuntu follows a six-month schedule to release a new version of their desktop and server OS, which is then provided with security updates for at least 18 months. Primarily to cater to businesses with a longer-supported platform, the lts line has been set up, where a major version is released every two years along with a commitment to support three years for desktop and five years for server systems. The developers of Ubuntu have through the mailing list released a new update with 8.04.3 LTS as the version number. The corresponding announcement looks like this:

Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS released

The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, the third maintenance update to Ubuntu’s 8.04 LTS release. This release includes updated server, desktop, and alternate installation CDs for the i386 and amd64 architectures.

In all, 80 updates have been integrated, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

We recommend that all users read the release notes, which document caveats and workarounds for known issues. They are available at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/804.
