Download Total Commander 6.55a
Microsoft released a security update during the last patch round KB923191 released and it appears to have the nasty side effect that the self-extracting archives created with Total Commander 6.55 no longer want to start. The solution is a new self-extracting module that from here can be downloaded. Christian Ghisler has also released a new version 6.55 download that includes this new module. The program itself has not changed and the about screen still shows version 6.55 with a date of July 26. The reason for this is that Christian did not want to compile and release a new version without an extensive beta testing period. This would prevent the development of Total Commander version 7, the first beta release of which should be released in a few days, with at least a month to slow down. So the changelog of version 6.55a looks like this:
Changes in Total Commander 6.55a
- Fixed: To unpack self-extracting archives created with TC6.55 on Windows XP, right click on them, choose properties and turn on Windows 2000 compatibility mode
- Fixed: After installing Microsoft security update KB923191, self-extracting ZIP archives no longer start. -> updated sfxhead.sfx
