R2 Studios has released version 3.0 build 319 of Startup Delayer. This program can modify the Windows startup process to allow faster access to the desktop. One of the reasons Windows is slow to start is that many programs and processes start at the same time. Some of these can be started a little later, such as e-mail programs and quick launchers for, for example, OpenOffice.org and Adobe Reader. With Startup Delayer it is possible to specify the order of the programs to be started and to assign them a waiting time. In this way it is possible to access the desktop more quickly, while less important programs are loaded in the background a little later. The release notes for this release can be found below.

Startup Delayer version 3.0 build 319 released

Build 319 has a completely rewritten Serialization system. I’ve moved away from Microsoft’s XmlSerializer in favor of versioned Binary files. If you were exeriencing crashes due to code generation or permissions on the temp folder these have now all been fixed.

During installation Build 319 will upgrade all of your existing data files from xml to bin. A backup will be created in case there are any issues.

Changes in this build:

  • Fixed generation of xml runtime classes by switching to a binary storage system
  • Updated all existing xml serialization code to use binary serialization instead
  • Created new SDXmlUpgrader project that gets run during installation
