Software update: Skype for Windows 6.6 build 106

Skype has released version 6.6 of its voip client for the Windows desktop environment. With Skype it is possible to communicate with other Skype users by means of text, speech or image, or a combination thereof, via an internet connection. It is also possible to set up a video conference call with a maximum of ten people, but there is a Premium Subscription required. Furthermore, the Facebook News Feed is integrated into the program and there is Skype Home, a place where you can indicate your mood, change your profile and find new contacts. In this release, improvements have been made to recording video messages for contacts that cannot be reached directly, and several bugs have been fixed.

Today we released a new version of Skype for Windows desktop. With our smaller releases we continue to focus on addressing user feedback, ease of use and great quality. As such with this release we focused on:

Optimizations to the video messaging experience

To ensure a consistent Skype experience no matter what device you use we have updated the behavior for video messaging access points when a contact is offline and the share (plus button) menu. When a contact is offline, the video call button will now display as greyed out rather than showing the video message button. The share menu includes the send video messaging option for both online and offline contacts. We also decided to remove the video message access point from the in call toolbar.

Resolved issues:

• Screen share: Doesn’t work when restarted a second time for users on 6.1 version
• Video messaging: Cannot playback video on Windows XP
• Hanging: Client hangs when hovering over heart emoticon
• Crashing: When resuming PC from sleep
• File sharing: After canceling transfer by recipient, canceled transfer is not shown to sender
• Lync contacts: After adding phone number to a Lync contact, information is not shown in their profile
• Video calling: Changing camera stops video call in progress
