Download Skype 0.90.0.14 beta
Skype is a program that allows conversations with other Skype users. It is being developed by the same people behind KaZaA and uses the P2P technique from that program. According to the developers, this makes it possible to have a conversation with a higher quality than via a normal fixed telephone connection. Recently version 0.90.0.14 beta is available for the Linux platform and has the following changelog:
Features:
- advanced search, including “Invite someone to use skype” from empty search results
- rename friends from context menu (you can change names of contacts locally for better overview)
- new login and “create user” interface including username suggestions
- correct “free for chat” icon for contacts in this mode (not yet possible to set for yourself)
Changes:
- main window behavior when conference client – you can resize it and call tab scrolls if all the info doesn’t fit
- Skype does not call SNDCTL_DSP_SETDUPLEX ioctl in case the dsp device is already in full duplex mode
- disabled SOUND_MIXER_READ_IGAIN part of permanent error – this and the previous one should improve usability on FreeBSD and also on Linux
- improved internal connection setup handling: may improve connectivity and performance for some users who had trouble with it (could not log in or create new account or connect at all)
- contact list is now sorted according to statuses (online, offline, unknown)
- “Extend a search” button lets you extend your searches
- proxy settings are now looked for also in Mozilla and Konqueror settings, previously only Opera settings and environment variables
Bug fixes:
- leaked file descriptors on NFS shares
- setting My Picture now works also with the Qt 3.1 version
- EULA window doesn’t close when registering new account
- if clicking “cancel” in login dialog, you will stay connected as the previous user if you happened to be logged in before
