Software Update: Python 2.4.1

Spread the love

Python is a programming language with which simple to complex platform-independent applications can be developed. This language is used by many companies such as Industrial Light & Magicgoogle and NASA† The developers today released version 2.4.1 which follows on from the second release candidate released two weeks ago. The release notes look like this:

We are pleased to announce the release of Python 2.4.1 (final) on March 30, 2005. Python 2.4.1 is a bugfix release of Python 2.4 – Python 2.4 is now in bugfix-only mode, no new features are being added. Several dozen bugs were squashed since Python 2.4, including the SimpleXMLRPCServer security fix.

What’s New in Python 2.4.1 final?

  • Core and built-ins
    • Move exception finalization later in the shutdown process – this fixes the crash seen in bug #1165761
  • Tests
    • SF patch 1167316: doctest.py fails self-test if run directly.
  • build
    • SF patch 1171767: Darwin 8’s headers are anal about POSIX compliance, and linking has changed (prebinding is now deprecated, and libcc_dynamic no longer exists). This configure patch makes things right.
