ConeXware is hard at work building a new version of its archiving tool, and PowerArchiver 9.0 has just arrived at beta 3. Major innovations include support for 7zip and TAR, and ZIP AES encryption. The full changelog for the 9.0 beta series through beta 3 is as follows:
Major changes:
- 7zip support: create and extract 7z files. 7zip is a new open source archive format with open architecture and very strong compression.
- Full support for ZIP AES encryption (supports: PKZip 5.1 (full), Secure Zip 8.0 and WinZip 9.0).
- New TAR support: now supporting extended TAR specification.
- New Explorer View: considerably faster explorer view when going through archives, with completely changed way of browsing through hard drive which is now much like Windows Explorer and supports explorer shell extensions.
- Compression profiles: you can now create and use different compression profiles. It allows you to setup your compression profile and use it throughout most of PowerArchiver.
- UNICODE support for 7zip and RAR and better support throughout the application.
Improvements:
- Optimized and reduced memory usage.
- “Normal” relative option of saving folder names when compressing single folder.
- Updated icons with more style and color.
- Improved 120 dpi support, now better throughout the application.
- Improved System Tray info.
- Changed some Configuration options to be easier to understand.
- Improved RAR support, now with smarter handling of multivolumes.
- Convert tool added to the shell extensions.
- Improved installer now recognizes current installation folder.
- Improved MSI installation for business users.
- Improved automatic package installation tool.
- Improved translation process for translators.
- Names added to the FTP profiles.
