Download Plex 0.9.5 Beta
The Plex program, also known as Plexapp, is an open source media server for Mac OS X and now Windows. Clients are for more platforms available, including iOS and Android. Plex started out as a spin-off of XBMC Media Center and has been developed separately ever since. The program includes its own App Store, where plug-ins can be exchanged. For example, these plug-ins allow instant viewing of content from Hulu, Netflix, and CNN Video.
In version 0.9.5, which is currently in preview release, a large number of changes have been made. So there is now myPlex, which makes it easy to stream media from the central database to various fixed or mobile clients, or queue media for later viewing. Furthermore, a client is now available not only for iOS, Android, Mac OS X and LG, but also for Windows and Samsung. Finally, a lot has been improved on the server side as well.
