Software Update: Paint.NET 2.5 beta 5

Spread the love

The fifth beta release of Paint.NET 2.5 has just been released. This program is a cross between the MS Paint that comes with Windows and a more powerful photo editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop. It only works under Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server and is developed in C#, which requires .NET FrameWork to be installed. The final release for version 2.5 is scheduled for the end of November. The successor has already appeared on the roadmap, version 2.6 is on the calendar for mid-January next year. If you already have a version from the 2.5 series installed, then updating from the help menu is also possible (Help -> Updates -> Check Now). In any case, the changelog of this release looks like this:

New:

  • Line/Curve tool for drawing either spline or Bezier curves
  • Radial Blur effect

changed:

  • Better error message when trying to install when .NET 2.0 is present but .NET 1.1 is not
  • Moved Updates and Language submenus over to the File menu

Fixed:

  • Desktop and Programs shortcuts not recreated when doing an update
  • Selection tools not working after opening old PDN images via Windows shell
  • Intermittent crash with Text Tool
  • A lot of bugs (30+)
