Software Update: OpenTTD 1.0.0

Spread the love

On Thursday, the final release of version 1.0.0 of OpenTTD finally became available, exactly six years after the OpenTTD project started. In this open source clone of the Microprose game Transport Tycoon Deluxe, the goal is to build a transport empire by road, rail, water, and air. OpenTTD can do more than just mimic the original game. For example, up to 64 times larger maps can be used than in the original, the AI is worthy of its name and there is support for multiplayer and IPv6. Versions for Windows, Linux, Solaris and BSD variants are available. Development of a version for Mac OS X is currently behind schedule due to lack of developers available to be.

The main change in version 1.0.0 is that the original game’s data files, which are still copyrighted, no longer need to be present. The open source graphic, sound– and musicfiles are now mature enough to serve as replacements, but must be downloaded separately. This is easy for Windows users, as the option is offered during installation. Since the third release candidate, the following two bugs have been fixed:

Fixed since RC3:

  • Network clients would crash while connecting to a server with AIs (r19526)
  • [NPF] Crash when finding a waypoint before finding the closest depot [FS#3703] (r19460)
