Blockchains and cryptocurrencies, in whatever form, have become an indispensable part of the news. The founder of the technique and at the same time the best-known application is Bitcoin, and since it is open source, numerous so-called altcoins have appeared. In early 2014, Bytecoin was released based on the CryptoNote protocol, which was completely different. Due to the mystery of Bytecoin’s background and the estimate that more than 80 percent had already been mined, a group of developers soon started using Bitmonero as a fork, which in turn was forked to Monero in late April 2014 . The network consists of numerous nodes running the Monero client. An update of this has been released with version number 0.17.1.5 with the following announcements:

Monero 0.17.1.5 ‘Oxygen Orion’ Point Release

This is the v0.17.1.5 minor point release of the Monero software. This is a recommended release that improves Dandelion ++ perfomance.

Some highlights of this minor release are:

  • Change Dandelion ++ fluff probability to 20%, and embargo timeout to 39s
  • Fix timeout checks for forwarded and Dandelion ++ stem txes
  • Improve peer selection in Dandelion ++ voice phase
  • Skip non-synced bootstrap daemons in –no-sync mode
  • Check imported multisig curve points are in main subgroup
  • Better log message for unusable anonymity networks
  • Minor bug fixes

Monero GUI 0.17.1.5 ‘Oxygen Orion’ released

This is the v0.17.1.5 minor point release of the Monero GUI software. This release improves simple mode reliability. The latest CLI release notes can be found on the precedent blog post

Some highlights of this minor release are:

  • Simple mode: skip syncing nodes
  • Write QML cache to portable folder
  • Linux: enable high DPI support
  • Minor bug fixes
