Software Update: KDE Software Compilation 4.4.4

Spread the love

The fourth update for version 4.4.0 of the KDE Software Compilation was released on Tuesday. This popular desktop environment used to be known as the K Desktop Environment, but the developers now believe that KDE Software Compilation covers the load better. KDE is primarily developed for Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, but there are versions for it too Windows and Mac OS X, albeit that they are somewhat behind in development. The KDE Software Compilation comes with a standard desktop, including fifteen packages of applications, including a personal information manager, multimedia and network management programs, and games. Below are the main improvements made in this release:

KDE SC 4.4.4 has a number of improvements:

  • Several bugs in filename sorting in the Dolphin file manager have been fixed
  • Issues with encoded filenames in ZIP archives have been fixed
  • A number of bugs in games, such as KMines, KNetwalk and LSkat and KSpaceDuel have been fixed

the changelog lists more, if not all improvements since KDE SC 4.4.3.
