Software update: ClarkConnect 3.0 beta 1
Point Clark Networks recently released a new beta version of their ClarkConnect 3.0 software package. This is a complete operating system that can turn any normal PC into a dedicated gateway and easy-to-use server. All the usual features are present, such as a firewall, intrustion detection system, Apache web server with CGI, PHP and SSL support, file server with FTP, Windows and AppleShare, mail server with POP, IMAP and SMTP, built-in web proxy filter, print server with support for Samba and of course DHCP and DNS services. Overview
- We’re calling this the “Beta 1” release even though some features are still under development. The following features did not make it into the latest build — the features are either missing, or simply rebuilt using the old 2.2 version:
- Samba advanced configuration
- Reports
- PPTP VPN kernel module
- Upgrade to 2.x
- Speakup support
Bonus Feature
- Though not listed on the roadmap, a new MySQL module is available. This module uses MySQL 4.0 and phpMyAdmin (integrated into webconfig).
