A new version of Caliber has been released. Caliber is an open source e-book management program and is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Among other things, it can look up all relevant information and cover images, and convert e-books to make them suitable for the various types of e-readers. Furthermore, the program can convert newspapers, magazines and news articles based on RSS feeds into e-book format. Books can also be purchased with Caliber at the well-known web stores. The program is under active development and a new version is usually released every other week on Friday. In version 3.27, the following improvements have been made:
New features
- Content server: Allow conversion of books
Click the convert icon in the top bar of the book details page to convert a book. Note that conversion only works for logged in users who have permission to make changes to the caliber library. - Kobo driver: Add support for new firmware
- Bulk metadata edit dialog: Add an “edit tags” button for tags like custom columns. Close tickets: 1779299
- Add an option in Preferences->Look & feel to disable the new ‘drag and drop to merge books feature’.
- E-book viewer: Add a shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+B) to toggle the bookmarks panel. Close tickets: 1780097
- Edit book: Add a copy to clipboard button on the various report dialogs
- Edit book: Add a shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+Down) to edit the next file in the book spine. Close tickets: 1779616
- caliber-smtp: Verify relay server TLS certificates by default. New option –dont-verify-server-certificate to restore old behavior.

- Version 3.27.1 fixes a build error in 3.27.0 that caused caliber not to start on macOS older than High Sierra
- Conversion: Fix a regression in the previous release that caused conversion of EPUB 3 to EPUB 3 to fail. Close tickets: 1779518

- Fix a regression that broke the fetching of annotations from Kobo and Kindle devices.

- Kindle Fire driver: Send books by default to the “kindle” folder instead of the “Books” folder to workaround a change in the Fire firmware that causes the Kindle to not recognize files in the Books folder.
- Linux installer: Also fix the execute bits in the umask if the user runs the installer with a umask that prevents files from being world executable.
