Xiqum has seen on Apple’s download site that the company has released a software update for its MacBook Pro laptops based on the Santa Rosa platform. “The update includes software and firmware for the new MacBook Pros that have been released recently. A number of changes have been made to OpenGL and the nVidia drivers. Also, my own benchmark has shown that my MacBook Pro is now about 10 percent faster,” Xiqum told us. Apple’s developers have not disclosed exactly what the update does, but according to Mac Rumors installs new drivers for the laptop’s built-in GeForce GPU:

While Apple does not elaborate on the contents of the update, an analysis of the update package indicates that it contains improvements to the graphics subsystem, with updated nVidia graphics drivers and some updated OpenGL components.

Some initial benchmarks of the updated MacBook Pros had indicated some graphics scores lower than its predecesor. This had been speculated to be caused by faulty graphics drivers. This update would seem to be an attempt at correcting these issues.
