Sharp smartphone gets 4.5 “igzo screen with 487 ppi

Sharp has announced the Aquos Series mini SHL24 smartphone. The device has a screen based on the igzo technology co-developed by Sharp. In addition, the 4.5″ screen has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, which equates to a ppi of 487.

The new smartphone was announced in Japan, Sharp’s home market. It is unlikely that a European release is in the offing: Sharp does not release smartphones here. What is striking about the SHL24 is that the panel is based on the igzo technology, which Sharp previously used mainly for televisions. Earlier, the manufacturer already announced that it will shift the production of such screens to smartphones. Igzo is said to offer lower power consumption than conventional LCD technology and enable more sensitive touchscreens.

Also striking is the pixel density of 487 ppi, which is achieved by the resolution of 1920×1080 pixels on a screen with a diagonal of 4.5 “. This gives the SHL24 a ​​higher pixel density than most high-end smartphones. Inside the housing is a Snapdragon 800. -soc built-in and the software is based on Android 4.2 The device has 16GB for storage and a 13-megapixel camera for photos, and the device must also be resistant to water.

Sharp advertises with its new smartphone the thin bezels that surround the screen, something the manufacturer calls the Edgest design. However, with 10.2 mm at its thickest point, the SHL24 is not one of the thinnest devices on the market. In addition, the smartphone will be available in various colors as soon as it is available.
