Sega and Creative Assembly are working on a free-to-play card game within the Total War franchise. The game is called Total War: Elysium and it revolves around historical battles with all kinds of generals and units.

Developer Creative Assembly reports that a closed beta of Total War: Elysium has now started. Players from certain unnamed regions may be able to participate by signing up through the game’s website. It is unknown when that beta will be over, how many players will be able to participate and when the game will officially be released. The makers want to release Total War: Elysium simultaneously for PC, Android and iOS.

There are quite a few collectible card games on the market. According to the makers, Total War: Elysium distinguishes itself because it is focused on history, including all kinds of factions from the various Total War games. Players can deploy well-known historical generals, where strategy would play an important role. These generals will be recognizable from multiple Total War games.

A signature gameplay element is Daybreak, where the player can bring in reserve troops halfway through the fight, with which the chosen strategy is to throw. For example, if the human or computer-controlled opponent has a lot of archers, then it pays to call in cavalry quickly. However, certain cards can only be used effectively at certain times of the day.

Players can earn cards by leveling up, but they can also do it faster by purchasing Battle Packs through the in-game currency Amethyst. That digital money can be earned by playing, but the virtual money can also be bought with real money. Prior to the purchase of a Battle Pack, the specificity of the cards to be received is visible. Players can also create their own cards. When the game comes out, at least more than three hundred cards and more than nine generals will be available, although there could be more based on the closed beta.
