Samsung acquires the mobile division of British company CSR. The South Korean manufacturer will pay an amount of USD 310 million in cash for this. The division’s 310 employees will transfer to Samsung.
British company CSR, which sells hardware and software for wireless technology, reports that it is selling its mobile division to Samsung. The South Korean company hopes to strengthen its position in the mobile chip market with this. The acquisition involves an amount of USD 310 million. Of this, up to 285 million will go to shareholders, with Samsung investing an additional $34.4 million in the company.
With the takeover, Samsung will take over 310 employees and will receive 21 patents and associated knowledge. This effectively takes over the entire R&D department of CSR. Samsung will also receive the right to use the other intellectual property in the field of mobile technology from the British company.
CSR will retain its existing products and associated revenue, and also reserves the right to continue to use future mobile technology in markets other than mobile phones and other mobile devices. CSR is in other markets where mobile technology is used, such as speech and music technology, automotive infotainment, image recognition and bluetooth smart devices.
