Samsung researches combining quantum dots with oled for televisions

Samsung is working on the development of OLED technology again, the company has confirmed. In a research project, the company tries to combine the quantum dot technique it uses with its QLED TVs with oled, where it may use blue OLEDs.

That Samsung is once again developing oledtelevisions, confirms the CEO of the Visual Display division to ZDNet. He also reports that Samsung wants to combine quantum dots with microled technology. That Samsung sees the future in quantum dots and microled was already known, but that the company is again investigating the use of OLED was not confirmed yet.
Samsung has moved from OLED in 2016 because LG holds the patents on the use of white OLEDs. This meant that Samsung had to restrict itself to the use of rgb-oleds, whose quality deteriorates because blue, green and red do not wear evenly.
In February the rumor appeared that Samsung had shown oledtv’s with blue oleds during the CES. Samsung would use a quantum dot layer and color filters to display red and green. Samsung denied this rumor. Blue OLEDs are the weak link in terms of lifespan and efficiency compared to red and green.
But Samsung has invested in the company Cynora, which is developing the oledtechnique thermally activated delayed fluorescence or tadf. Cynora started the production of blue tafd-oled emitters at the end of 2017, which would negate the shortcomings of blue oleds, wrote OledNet. LG also invested in Cynora and the company wants to produce green and red radf emitters at the end of 2018 and at the end of 2019.
