Samsung makes Galaxy S5 variant with octacore processor

The Galaxy S5, Samsung’s new top model smartphone, will be produced with both a quad-core and an octa-core processor. The octacore processor may be one from Samsung’s own Exynos line. The same happened with the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4.

Samsung released the information on its official blog, but the page now appears to be offline again. The Google cached version of the page reveals that the new Galaxy S5 will come with both a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and a 2.1GHz octacore processor. There is a chance that this is the octacore Exynos processor that Samsung announced last year. The quad-core variant of the S5 will receive a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801. It is unclear which version of the S5 will be distributed per country.

Samsung has already made a similar move with the Samsung Galaxy S4. That device also came with a quad-core and an octa-core processor. However, tests showed that the two variants hardly differ from each other in terms of performance.
