Samsung has announced the Samsung Home Hub. This is an 8.4″ tablet specifically intended for controlling devices in smart homes. Initially, the tablet only supports Samsung’s own SmartThings platform.

The Samsung Home Hub can be used separately, but can also be placed in a dock. In addition to touch-sensitive control, voice control is possible with Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby. The tablet contains two microphones so that voice commands are properly registered, even at a distance from the user. In addition, the Home Hub has two speakers for notifications, among other things.

Judging by the images, the Home Hub runs Android. Samsung shows, among other things, how the tablet offers an overview of the energy consumption in the house, the air quality and the washing program on a home screen.

Initially, this only concerns products and services from Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, such as SmartThings Cooking, Clothing Care, Pet, Air, Energy and Home Care Wizard. The manufacturer also promises to integrate devices from other manufacturers in the short term, with Samsung specifically mentioning those for lighting and door locks. The Home Hub will be released first in South Korea, and then in other countries, for an as yet undisclosed price.
