‘Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 runs on Snapdragon 400-soc’

Data from a benchmark would show that the upcoming 8″ version of the Galaxy Tab 4 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400-soc on board. It is the first time that Samsung uses a budget version of a Qualcomm soc in a tablet.

The tablet on which the benchmark was run is the 4g version of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, according to the type number SM-T335. The step is striking, because Samsung has applied an Intel soc for the 4g version of its current Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, in combination with a baseband chip from Intel for 4g connectivity.

The soc in the Tab 4 8.0 is an MSM8226, a Snapdragon 400 with four Cortex A7 cores at 1.2GHz. Manufacturers find this soc interesting because it allows them to advertise with a quad-core Snapdragon, while the Snapdragon soc with Qualcomm’s own Krait cores is more expensive to purchase. The GPU is an Adreno 305.

According to the benchmark, the resolution of the tablet is 1280×800 pixels, which means that the number of pixels per inch would be 188. Samsung has been using resolutions around HD-ready since the beginning of the Galaxy Tab line in 2010. The Galaxy Tab line is now the cheaper line of tablets, including the TabPRO and NotePRO tablets.

Samsung presents the Tab 4 line according to a recent rumor at the Mobile World Congress, a telecom fair that starts in a week and a half in the Spanish city of Barcelona.
