Samsung announces flip smartphone W2019 in China

Samsung has officially announced the W2019, a device that looks like an old-fashioned flip phone. The smartphone can be opened and displays a 4.2 “screen and a T9 keyboard with a number of function buttons.

The flip smartphone is listed on the website from Samsung and is not delivered to Europe. It is unclear whether Samsung intends to release the device outside of China, usually, smartphones in the W-series are not released on a large scale, as images of the W2019 have been published. W2019 equipped with two AMOLED screens, each with a diagonal of 4.2 “and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. In addition, one can be used when the device is collapsed, while the other is shown after folding out. There is also a Snapdragon 845-soc on board, accompanied by 6GB ram and 128GB or 256GB storage. Two 12-megapixel cameras can be found at the back. Due to the flip mechanism, the W2019 is quite thick, and with 257 grams the whole is also relatively heavy. Furthermore, there is a 3.5 mm connection and the software is based on the outdated Android 8.1.

For the W2019, Samsung in China requires approximately 2400 euros, making the smartphone considerably more expensive than most high-end models. However, buyers receive extras, including a service to disinfect the smartphone, but also an ‘exclusive hotline’, in which it is unclear what exactly these W2019 owners offer. Samsung also offers the possibility to have the screen or the battery replaced free of charge, up to twice a year.
