The hacker who entered Democratic Party systems in 2016 under the name Guccifer 2.0 reportedly made a mistake in activating VPN, which allowed him to discover his real IP address.

That report The Daily Beast based on anonymous sources. The actual IP address of Guccifer 2.0 is said to have been found in the server logs of an unnamed American media company. Based on this, American investigators would conclude that the hacker was operating from an office of the Russian military intelligence on Grizodubovoy Street in Moscow.

Previous research by ThreatConnect traced Guccifer 2.0 to an IP address of Elite VPN in a French data center. This vpn service is headquartered in Russia, but has an exit point in France. According to the new message, Guccifer 2.0 has not activated Elite VPN on a few occasions.

The FBI, CIA and NSA already concluded in January 2017 that Russian military intelligence was behind ‘Guccifer 2.0’. Moscow has always denied any involvement in the Democratic party hack.
