Rumor: Tencent wants to buy Angry Birds maker Rovio for $3 billion

The Chinese internet and game company Tencent is in talks with Rovio Entertainment, the Finnish developer of the Angry Birds games, according to sources from The Information. Last year, the Chinese company acquired Clash of Clans developer Supercell for $8.6 billion.

The Information states that Tencent is investigating the possibilities for an acquisition, but that no agreement has yet been reached. The website says it is relying on sources that are familiar with the conversations. In addition to Tencent, more companies would be interested in acquiring Rovio. It is not clear which other companies these are. The Chinese internet company is said to have left $3 billion, converted about 2.7 billion euros, for the acquisition.

Last year, Tencent paid $8.6 billion to acquire Supercell, the maker of mobile game Clash of Clans. The Chinese company also owns Riot Games, the developer of the popular game League of Legends.

The Chinese Tencent is one of the largest internet companies in the world, but focuses its services mainly on China. The company is the creator of the chat service WeChat, which has 864 million active users. In March, the company invested 1.64 billion euros in car manufacturer Tesla.
