Samsung would like to announce the rumored ‘smart glasses’ Galaxy Glass in early September. That should happen during the IFA fair, which will be held in Berlin. A release is likely before the end of the year.

That states The Korea Times based on sources within Samsung. The Korean newspaper has proven to have accurate sources in the past. Samsung is said to be planning to showcase a competitor for Google’s smart glasses Glass at the IFA trade show, which kicks off on September 5 in Berlin.

According to The Korea Times, the Galaxy Glass will have functionality similar to that of the Gear smart watch. For example, notifications that arrive on a connected smartphone could be shown via the screen on the glasses, while users can also make phone calls or listen to music.

At the same time, sources at Google have indicated that the company is in the final stages of developing Glass. As a result, Google is on track to release its smart glasses in the second half of this year. Previously, the company came up with a developer program, where a select number of developers could buy the glasses.

It is not the first time that rumors have been circulating about a Google Glass competitor from Samsung. A patent application already pointed to the release of smart glasses, while the Russian telecom watcher Eldar Murtazin also reported the arrival of the glasses. According to The Korea Times, Samsung initially does not expect to make a profit on its ‘wearables’. However, the manufacturer hopes to strengthen its brand name with it.
