Samsung is working on a Galaxy S7 mini with the same soc as the larger S7 and S7 Edge, according to a new rumor. In addition to the soc, the S7 mini would have lesser specs than the larger variants of the phone.

The rumor comes from Taiwanese site AppleDaily, which previously correctly reported that Lenovo and HTC were in talks about an acquisition. Although that takeover never happened, those talks reportedly did take place. Nevertheless, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, because the usually well-established SamMobile has not heard anything about this variant either.

According to AppleDaily, the S7 mini has a 4.6″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and the memory would be 3GB. This means that the screen resolution is significantly lower than with the regular S7, while the memory is also smaller. a maximum resolution of twelve megapixels have the same number of pixels on the sensor as the regular S7.In addition, the soc would be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or Samsung Exynos 8890, the same as in the S7 and S7 Edge.

Samsung has released smaller versions of its flagship device for a number of years, such as the S III mini, the successful S4 mini and the less successful S5 mini. Despite ongoing rumors, a smaller variant of the S6 never came. Instead, the South Korean manufacturer only released the Galaxy A3, which is made of metal instead of glass.

Despite Samsung’s history with smaller versions of its Galaxy S device, AppleDaily links the release of a possible S7 mini to the alleged arrival of the iPhone SE. Apple would like to present the 4″ iPhone next week. The Cupertino company has announced an event for next week.
