Rumor: New iPhones are getting one-handed mode

The two new iPhones that Apple is set to announce next week and which are said to have larger screens will feature a one-handed operation mode. At least that’s what anonymous Apple employees tell The New York Times.

It is not yet known what the mode will look like; the American newspaper only writes that ‘the design of the user interface allows users to operate apps with one hand and to type with one hand’. That mode can be turned on and off. With this, Apple wants to address one of the objections that some users have against phones with large screens: that they can not operate it with one hand.

The New York Times further confirms that the new iPhones will have screen diagonals of 4.7 and 5.5 inches, as has been suggested in rumors for some time. The larger version will cost more. Unlike the current iPhone, the new models should have rounder, softer corners, similar to those of the latest iPad models.

The newspaper also confirms that the new models will receive an NFC chip for making mobile payments. The company is said to have entered into partnerships with payment processors such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express to allow users to actually make payments. The newspaper also confirms earlier rumors that the iWatch, as the device may be called, can be charged wirelessly.
