Neogaf user ‘crazy buttocks on a train’ posted a screenshot from a PowerPoint presentation of Source Engine 2 on Monday evening. It shows a picture of the plantation level from Left 4 Dead 2, but with significant graphical improvements.

The screenshot shows a familiar environment from Left 4 Dead 2, but with much more detail. Mainly the vegetation, the light, the shadows and the damage to the environment look much better and more detailed. More small screenshots can be seen on the left, including a comparison between the same place in Source 1 and Source 2.

On the bottom slide on the left is just some text to read. This is probably about the planned changes to the Hammer editor. That’s what a new interface is called, and from now on compiling will be simpler and automatic.

If the screenshot is correct, there is a good chance that Source 2 will actually become available. What can’t be said, though, is whether this means Valve is working on Left 4 Dead 3. It’s also possible that the company is only using environments from Left 4 Dead 2 to demonstrate the differences between the two versions of the engine.

It is unclear where cboat gets its material from. On Neogaf, he enjoys a reputation as a reliable source of leaked information. For example, he has already made predictions in the past that turned out to be close to the truth. So it is quite possible that the PowerPoint presentation and the screenshots that can be seen in it are actually from Valve.
