BlackBerry is working on a new smartphone with a 64-bit processor that should be released in September. That reports a British telecom blog. Currently, only Apple produces smartphones with 64-bit processors.

The rumors come from technology website Pocket-lint. The site claims to have a source that has provided reliable information about BlackBerry matters in the past. The source says they are one hundred percent sure that the processor of a new BlackBerry supports 64bit processing. The release would take place on September.

Earlier rumors on Pocket-lint state that it is an octacore processor, which runs at 2.5GHz per core. Specifically, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is meant. However, Pocket-lint states that those rumors do not come from the same source, making it unclear how reliable the information is. In addition, a Qualcomm roadmap shows that the Snapdragon 810, or MSM8994, will not be released until the first quarter of 2015.

This makes it more likely that the new BlackBerry will have an MSM8916 processor, also known as the Snapdragon 410. That is also a 64-bit processor, but it will be available in the third quarter of this year and will also be cheaper than the Snapdragon 810. This also fits better with the intentions of the manufacturer.
