The upcoming iPad Pro with 12.9 “screen will initially be limited in availability due to problems with the production of the miniLED screen, reports financial news agency Bloomberg. The smaller version has a regular LCD.

Apple is still looking to announce the iPads later this month, Bloomberg reports. The 12.9-inch variant with a mini-LED screen will be released later and will initially appear on the market in a limited edition, the financial news agency reports based on anonymous sources. It is unknown how long the shortage would last.

The shortfall is due to production problems with the mini LED screen of the new largest iPad. A mini LED screen is an LCD with a full array local dimming backlight. By dividing the LCD backlight into zones, areas of the screen that should be dark can be illuminated less brightly. This improves the black display and, moreover, the saved energy can be used elsewhere on the screen to illuminate the screen extra bright for a better HDR display than is possible on a regular LCD.

According to Bloomberg, the new iPads will also receive a new soc that is more in line with the M1 from the new MacBook models. They would also have modified cameras compared to their predecessors. Apple has not confirmed the rumours.
