Rockstar Games says it is “in full swing” on a new Grand Theft Auto game. In doing so, the company says it will “go significantly further” than with previous games. Further details are not yet given.
“With GTA V’s unprecedented longevity, we know that many of you have been asking us for a new game in the GTA series,” Rockstar wrote. “With every new project we embark on, our goal is to move significantly beyond what we’ve brought before. And we’re happy to confirm that active development on the next GTA game is well underway.”
on Twitter is shared a similar post, giving no details yet on where the game will take place, for example, or what new features are coming. The company says it will provide more details as soon as we are ready. It is not clear when this will be. Analysts previously said this could be before March 2024, based on financial expectations from parent company Take-Two.
Grand Theft Auto V originally appeared in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Over a year later, a PS4 and an Xbox One version appeared, after which the game came to Windows. Multiplayer part GTA Online is still being updated. The most recent major update expanded Franklin’s story. In total, the game has sold 140 million times.
