Renault showed an electric city car at the Shanghai auto show. The City K-ZE is a city car developed for the Chinese market. Renault does not give many details about the car. The City K-ZE will be released worldwide after the Chinese release at the end of this year.

According to Renault, the City K-ZE can be charged to 80 percent within 50 minutes with a fast charger. At ‘normal’ charging speeds, it would take four hours to fully charge the battery. Renault does not provide further information about the battery or charging speeds. Nor is it clear how far the production version can go.

The concept version was shown at the Paris Motor Show in October 2018. At the time, Renault gave the car a range of 250 km based on the NDC standard. It should be noted here that the nedc test is older and less reliable than the wltp standard. With the latter standard, cars often get shorter ranges than with the nedc test.

The City K-ZE will have an 8″ multimedia screen and support for WiFi via the 4G network. The car is also equipped with particulate matter sensors and control systems to manage the air quality in the car.

Renault plans to sell 550,000 Renault cars annually in China from 2022. The City K-ZE should help with that; that is why the car was shown there for the first time. The French car manufacturer does report that the car will also be released worldwide after the release in China. However, when and for what price is still unknown. Chinese sales will start ‘before the end of this year’.
