Red Dead Redemption 2 update and Nvidia hotfix should fix Vulkan issues

Rockstar Games has released a new patch for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. The update should resolve crashes when using quadcore and hexacore CPUs in combination with Nvidia GPUs and the Vulkan API. Nvidia has also released a hotfix.

According to Rockstar, Red Dead Remption 2 crashed when using Nvidia GPUs in combination with CPUs with four or six cores. This was said to be caused by a problem with Nvidia’s drivers. Title Update 1.14 should fix this. Users also need to install a new Nvidia driver; version 441.34 includes a hotfix for the issue.

The new update also fixes time-lapse issues in the game at “high frame rates”. The console version of the game runs at 30fps. Because the frame rate of the PC version is usually higher, the in-game time also went too fast. This caused players’ health cores to drain rapidly, regardless of how much users ate in the game. Additionally, users on Reddit complained about being underweight in the game, due to food being “digested” too quickly. Such issues with higher frame rates are not unique. Dark Souls 2 had a similar problem upon release, with weapons breaking too quickly. Skyrim and Fallout 4 also had problems above 60fps due to a limitation in the game engine.

Rockstar apologized last week for the problems with the game in combination with Nvidia GPUs and promised to come up with an update shortly. The patch released Tuesday also adds new content to Red Dead Online, the game’s multiplayer mode. The developer has added a new legendary bounty, new arrows and new clothing to the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was released for PC on November 5. Many players experienced performance issues and crashes upon release. Some players were unable to start the game at all due to an issue with the Rockstar Launcher, which should be resolved by now.
