Qualcomm to release M.2 modules with 5G modem in the second half of 2022

Qualcomm will release the M.2 variants of its Snapdragon X65 and X62-5G modems in the second half of 2022. These modules are intended for OEMs to add 5G to laptops and PCs. The company already said it would release such modules.

Qualcomm developed the M.2 variants of the Snapdragon X65 5G and X62 5G in collaboration with the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn and the Chinese Quectel, which produces wireless modules. The M.2 modems that Qualcomm comes with are intended to more easily provide laptops and desktops with 5G support.

The modules are based on the eponymous X65 and X62-5G chipsets, which are used, for example, in smartphones and support 5G on both mmWave and sub-6GHz frequencies. The M.2 variants are currently being sampled and will be available in OEM devices in the second half of 2022.

The arrival of the M.2 modules with X65 and X62 modems was already known. Qualcomm introduced two reference M.2 designs based on those modems in May last year. The company also said at the time that the modules can be used to provide laptops and desktops with 5G. The American chip designer did not report when these would appear.
