Praey for the Gods, Shadow of the Colossus’ spiritual successor, has been released
The game Praey for the Gods, which is supposed to be a “spiritual successor” to the game Shadow of the Colossus, has been released after seven years of development. In 2016, the game was announced via Kickstarter. Version 1.0 is out now for Steam, the PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
Kickstarter backers will receive their game keys in the near future, according to the latest Kickstarter update of the game. In it, the developers write that the game now has a complete storyline, including two boss battles, and that all achievements are in the game. A lot of optimization and bug fixing have also been added since early access.
Praey for the Gods is an action survival game in which a hero fights against the gods to save her world from destruction. Players must survive in an icy world and face what the developers call ‘colossal dangers’. The game is developed by No Matter Studios, a small indie studio made up of three game developers from the US, who started the game in 2014 in their spare time. The developers themselves have nothing to do with the original Shadow of the Colossus game, but are influenced by the game.
The game was released on Kickstarter in 2016. Initially, the Kickstarter campaign failed to reach the stretch goals, which meant that the game could only be developed for PC. However, because the game was made in Unity, it turned out to be relatively easy to port to a PS4 and Xbox One version. The game is now also suitable for the PS5 and Xbox Series S. The game features an original soundtrack. In the end, the developers raised just over $500,000 to develop the game. That meant they couldn’t hire additional staff, so development took longer than hoped.
According to the developers, Praey for the Gods combines gameplay elements from Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ and BloodBorne. In the game, the player must not only fight against huge enemies, but also survive in a frozen world with a dynamic day and night system and a dynamic weather system. According to the developers, the weather can be just as dangerous as the giants you are up against. Praey for the Gods is available for purchase on Steam, the Xbox store and the PS store.
