Possible render of HTC Desire phone with 5.5″ screen appears online

A first photo of what may be a new model from HTC’s Desire series is online. It is a dual-SIM phone with a 5.5″ screen with an as yet unknown resolution. A release of the Desire 800 may follow on March 18 in Beijing.

The marketing render is originally from the Chinese website MyDrivers. Sources from technology website Engadget have confirmed that the photo is authentic. In addition to the white Desire that can be seen in the photo, the device will probably be available in red, orange, cyan and yellow.

According to the site, the Desire 800 has a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel variant on the front. That front camera has a ‘beauty option’, something that was previously on the Huawei Ascend P6, which also has a 5MP front camera. The cameras do not use HTC’s Ultrapixel technology. The device also has stereo speakers on the front and unlike the HTC One, the Desire appears to be largely made of plastic. It would therefore be a midrange model. It can be deduced from the photo that this device has dimensions of 157x78x8.4 millimeters.

The appearance of the image coincides with a tweet from Jeff Gordon of HTC’s online communications division, stating that it is “important for HTC to have a complete, competitive offering in different price segments.” HTC indicated earlier this week that it would focus on cheaper devices.
