Polar released the Ignite on Wednesday, a fitness watch with a round touchscreen, heart rate monitor, and integrated GPS. According to the manufacturer, the clock can keep detailed training data for more than a hundred different indoor and outdoor sports.

The new sports watch provides daily training guidance based on the user’s fitness level, training history and recovery information. Based on this so-called FitSpark data, the user receives ‘personalized suggestions’ for cardio exercises, strength training or other workouts.

To collect data on the user’s physical recovery after a workout, Polar Ignite has a feature called Nightly Recharge. This measures how the nervous system recovers sleep during a night by means of heart rate, heart rate variability and breathing, according to the Finnish manufacturer. Again, this would provide personalized tips regarding scheduled workouts and rest periods, with the aim of improving both performance and fitness level.

The Ignite also acts as a sleep tracker, dividing the night into light and deep sleep, braking phases and interruptions. According to Polar, the watch’s Sleep Plus Stages feature goes one step further by also providing insight into how the user’s lifestyle affects their sleep quality. Like many sports watches, the Ignite also offers breathing exercises to relax and for ‘better sleep’.

Other features of the Polar Ignite are the water resistance, which makes the clock also suitable for water sports, and the rechargeable battery that – depending on use – lasts up to five days. The fitness timepiece is available for 199.90 euros with a black interchangeable TPU wristband. The device is also available with a white or yellow silicone strap. That version costs 229.90 euros. The accompanying smartphone app is suitable for both Android and iOS devices.
