Pokémon Go Plus wearable coming next week

Niantic and Nintendo have announced that the Pokémon Go Plus wearable will be available on September 16. The accessory connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and allows wearers to control certain functions from the game.

When carriers of the Pokémon Go Plus walk past a pokestop, the wearable vibrates and an LED lights up. By clicking on the accessory, players can amass the items available at these stops. The wearable also gives notifications about nearby Pokémon, by blinking and vibrating. According to Niantic, it is possible to catch the critters without using the smartphone, with the push of a button.

On Wednesday, Niantic announced that Pokémon Go will also work with the Apple Watch before the end of the year. The Apple smartwatch then offers similar functionality as the Plus wearable, although it is not possible to catch Pokémon from the watch. It is not yet known whether there will also be support for Android smartwatches.

At the presentation of the quarterly figures in July, Nintendo already announced that the bracelet would come on the market later. At the time it was mentioned that the release would take place in September at least in Japan, but that turns out to be worldwide. The release will only follow later in some South American countries. The accessory has a suggested retail price of 39.99 euros.
