Plex introduces a function to skip the credits of films and series
Plex introduces Credits Detection, a feature that allows users to automatically skip the credits of a movie or series. The feature will become available as standard on Thursday for Plex Pass users’ personal media servers and Plex’s free streaming offering.
Of the new function users will see a ‘Skip Credits’ button when the credits of a film or series begin. The company says the feature will automatically become available in the service’s streaming offering. Plex Pass users with version 1.31.0 or newer of the Plex Media Server will also automatically get the feature for their personal media library. The feature works in the Plex app for Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, iOS, macOS, Windows, Xbox, various smart TVs and more.
The feature is similar to the existing Skip Intro feature, which has been available in Plex since 2020. That previous feature identifies TV series intros by comparing multiple episodes. In the case of Credits Detection, Plex uses a more complex algorithm to identify the beginning and end of the credits. According to the service, this algorithm looks at the presence of text, black frames and other things. The company does warn that the option may not always appear.
