A former Sony employee states in his resume on LinkedIn that he has been working on the Next Generation PlayStation since August 2010. He is said to have tinkered with the graphics library at Sony’s R&D department, among other things.

Website VideoGamer discovered Attila Vass’ resume on LinkedIn. This shows that the programmer has been working in San Francisco since April for Cloudpic, a company that makes graphics software. More interesting is what Vass was doing up to that time. He worked for Sony for 14 years, in the research and development department of the console maker in California. There he worked on the development of all consoles from the Japanese, the PlayStation 2 and 3 as well as the handhelds PlayStation Portable and Vita.

According to the resume, Vass, originally Hungarian, started a new project in August 2010. He went on to work on the graphics library and security of the Next Generation PlayStation. That would mean Sony has been working on a new console for almost two years now. Rumors about a successor to the PS3 have been going around for quite some time, but Sony has not yet officially announced the successor. At E3, Sony America president Jack Tretton made it clear that his company is in no rush. “We’ve never been the first, we’ve never been the cheapest, it’s about being the best,” the CEO said in an interview with Spike TV.

Sony’s competition consists of Nintendo, which will launch the Wii U at the end of this year, and Microsoft, which is working on a successor to the Xbox 360. There are also many rumors about Microsoft’s new console, but just like Sony the Americans have not yet announced when the new Xbox will be on the market.
