The Japanese company Panasonic has confirmed that it is involved in a data breach. According to Panasonic, a ‘third party’ illegally gained access to the company’s network, with ‘certain data’ being viewed.

Panasonic wrote in a press release that hackers “illegally gained access” to the company’s network on November 11. However, a Panasonic spokesperson clarified to TechCrunch that the unauthorized access occurred between June 22 and November 3, and was first detected on November 11.

According to Panasonic, an internal investigation revealed that this third party has gained access to ‘some data’ on a server. The company does not clarify what kind of data this concerns. Panasonic has reported the hack to authorities and has taken “security measures”, “including steps to prevent remote access to the network”.

The company says it is also working with a company to investigate the hack, and to determine whether access was gained to customers’ personal data or other sensitive data. There are no further details about the hack yet.
