Panasonic renews sturdy 12″ Toughbook 33 convertible

Panasonic has announced the arrival of a new version of the Toughbook 33. This 2-in-1, where the keyboard part can be separated from the tablet or screen part, is characterized by its sturdiness and drop resistance.

The new Toughbook 33 is a tablet that can easily be converted into a laptop with a keyboard. According to Panasonic, the device has a 12″ screen with a 3:2 ratio, a resolution of 2160×1440 pixels and a brightness of 1200cd/m². The latter and the addition of an anti-reflective coating means that this convertible should also be relatively usable outdoors. The predecessor also already had a screen with these specifications.

Computing power, among other things, has been upgraded with the addition of tenth-generation Intel i5 and i7 processors, the i5-10310U vPro and the i7-10810U to be exact. The previous Toughbook 33 from 2017 contains an Intel i5-7300U. Furthermore, a removable NVMe SSD from 512 to 1TB can be integrated and 16 or 32GB of ram is available.

Wireless upgrades have also been made, in the form of support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. In addition, according to Panasonic, the new Toughbook is the first sturdy laptop or tablet that has a regular SIM card and an eSIM. This means that users can also use 4G.

Where the previous edition had a specified battery life of eleven hours, the new version lasts for ten hours. but with optional long life batteries that would increase to twenty hours. The new Toughbook 33 includes a UBS-C connection with power delivery, an HDMI and a VGA connection.

The new Toughbook 33 weighs 2.8kg, or 1.5kg without keyboard. The device has an IP65 certification, so it can withstand dust and water to a certain extent. The various connections can also all be closed with valves specially intended for this purpose. In addition, the laptop is certified according to a MIL-STD standard, which means that a drop of 1.5 meters should not cause any problems.
