Panasonic has introduced a relatively small, largely square microfourthirds video camera that is intended for, for example, drones, live streams, or remote filming. The camera can record in Cinema 4K and has a sensor with a resolution of 10.2 megapixels.

The format of the Panasonic Lumix DC-BGH1 is 93x78mm. The device is not a traditional camera in the sense that it has a viewfinder or an LCD on the back. Instead, all kinds of accessories can be connected. The BGH1 has a Power over Ethernet connection, but a regular mains connection can also be used.

With the 10.2 megapixel sensor it is possible to record videos in a resolution of 4096×2160 pixels at 60fps, 4: 2: 0 subsampling with 10bit colors. At 4: 2: 2 and 10bit, a maximum of 30fps is possible in combination with a resolution of 4096×2160 pixels. Via HDMI, the camera can generate an output of 4096×2160 pixels with 60fps, 4: 2: 2 subsampling and 10bit colors.

As far as the connections are concerned, set-ups with multiple cameras have been thought of through the integration of BNC connectors. In addition, there are full HDMI and UBS-C connections. All these connections can simultaneously output a video signal. Finally, headphones can be connected, there is a 3.5mm jack for microphones.

Via the Lumix Tether app from Panasonic, the Lumix DC-BGH1 can be operated entirely via Ethernet. In addition, the Lumix Tether for Multicam app can be used to control up to twelve BGH1 cameras simultaneously with a single computer via PoE +. According to Panasonic, there will be a firmware update that will allow IP streaming via a wired Ethernet connection.

Panasonic will release the camera in December for a price of $ 2000. It is not known whether the camera will be released worldwide.
