Oscar Isaac will play Solid Snake in an upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie from Sony. That reports news site Deadline. The film is based on the first Metal Gear Solid game and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who confirms the news on Twitter.

The film is currently ‘in development’ at Sony Pictures, Deadline reports. The news site reports that it is still unclear when the film production will start, as Isaac has a crowded agenda. The actor currently has several movies on his plate, including the upcoming Dune reboot. He also works on series for HBO and Disney +. Isaac is known for his role as rebel pilot Poe Dameron in the most recent Star Wars trilogy.

According to Deadline, the film will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who confirms the news on Twitter. Deadline already reported in 2014 that Vogt-Roberts would probably be the director of a Metal Gear movie. He previously took on the same role for The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island. Vogt-Roberts also played the Film Director in Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s most recent game. Kojima is the genius of the Metal Gear franchise, but is no longer involved with the series today as he had to leave Konami in 2015.

Kojima already stated in 2006 that a live-action Metal Gear Solid film is being worked on. In 2012, the arrival of a Metal Gear film project was reconfirmed, but as yet no film has been released in the franchise. Remarkably, during an interview with IGN last year, Oscar Isaac already reported that he would like to play Solid Snake in a Metal Gear Solid movie.
