The first smartwatch from OnePlus will be released in early 2021, says CEO Pete Lau. Last week, he already indicated that the company is working with Google on improvements for Wear OS. However, OnePlus has not yet confirmed the use of that operating system for the watch.

The OnePlus CEO does not give details about the smartwatch, but he confirms on Twitter that the product will be released early next year. Last week, Lau said in an interview that OnePlus is working with Google on improvements to the Wear OS operating system and confirmed that the company is working on a watch. The CEO’s statements seemed to indicate that the OnePlus smartwatch runs on Wear OS, but OnePlus then told 9to5google that this has not been confirmed.

References to a OnePlus Watch appeared at an inspection body in August. Besides a model number, W301GB, that registration does not reveal any further details. OnePlus already had a watch in development around 2015, but those plans were scrapped. According to 9to5google, the upcoming smartwatch will have a round design just like previous prototypes.
