OnePlus releases 8T smartphone with lower price than OnePlus 8

OnePlus has announced its 8T smartphone. With a price of 599 euros, the smartphone is cheaper than the OnePlus 8 was at the time of introduction. The OnePlus 8 started at 699 euros for the cheapest version.

The most important upgrade is the screen. That is now a 120Hz OLED screen instead of a 90Hz panel in the OnePlus 8. Moreover, it is a flat screen, instead of a curved screen. OnePlus claims that the brightness goes up to a maximum of 1100 candela per square meter. The screen is the same size as that of the OnePlus 8, which came out this spring.

Another change is the battery. The 4500mAh battery can now charge with 65W instead of 30W in the predecessor. This should allow the battery to be fully charged in 39 minutes. There is no wireless charging. The phone can charge up to 45W via USB Power Delivery.

The soc is still a Snapdragon 865 with an X55 modem for 5G. There is a vapor chamber that is almost three times the size of the OnePlus 8 for cooling. The software is OxygenOS based on Android 11. It now has an always-on display with the option to always display information about digital wellbeing on the screen and to create a drawn version of the wallpaper.

The camera setup is largely the same. The primary camera is the Sony IMX586, a 30 square millimeter sensor with 48 megapixels. The camera with an ultra-wide angle lens is 16 megapixels and has a slightly larger field of view than the OnePlus 8. There is also a macro camera of 5 megapixels and a depth sensor.

The OnePlus 8T comes out immediately for 599 euros for the version with 8GB of lpddr4x memory and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The variant with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage costs 699 euros.
