OnePlus 3 will be announced at the end of the second quarter
Carl Pei, CEO of smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, has announced in an interview that the OnePlus 3 will be announced at the end of the second quarter. According to Pei, the new model should appeal to the imagination more than its predecessor.
That the new model of OnePlus as OnePlus 3 is going through life was not officially known yet, but has been confirmed by Carl Pei. He says in an interview with the Spanish branch of Cnet that the new top model will be announced at the end of the second quarter. In a tweet Pei himself refers to the interview with the text: “I always say too much when I talk to journalists”.
In the interview, Pei admits that the OnePlus One was a more striking device than the OnePlus 2. The first model managed to stand out with a low price and specifications that were equal to twice as expensive top models from manufacturers such as Samsung and LG. The OnePlus 2 was also cheaper than top models from competitors and well-equipped in terms of specifications, but the differences were less significant than with the first model.
With the OnePlus 3, Pei hopes to be able to bring back the ‘feeling’ that the first smartphone of the brand evoked. Whether that succeeds by once again offering impressive specifications for a low price remains to be seen. The competition in that area is great and now that OnePlus is getting bigger as a brand, that will also entail the necessary costs.
The co-founder of the brand admits that the smartphone market is a tricky one. He states that the US is very important for OnePlus this year and says that the company will start doing traditional marketing. Currently, the smartphone maker does not advertise in the media; the company is getting a lot of attention through social media in combination with its campaigns where smartphones can only be bought with an invitation. It is not yet known whether OnePlus will get off the invite system with the fourth device. Pei does say he expects “a better buying process.”
