Old Metal Gear games are temporarily out of download stores due to expired licenses

Konami is temporarily removing several old Metal Gear Solid games from download stores because licenses on historical footage used in the games have expired. According to the publisher, this is a temporary measure and the games will return.

Konami says it is working to renew licenses on historical archive footage used in the games. As a temporary measure, sales of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 through download stores have stopped.

This mainly concerns PlayStation 3 and Vita titles, but a game on the streaming service PlayStation Now is also temporarily offline. The same goes for a version of Metal Gear Solid 2 sold through GOG and for two games for the Nvidia Shield TV. The measure does not yet affect gamers who already own the games.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 first appeared on November 13, 2001 and November 17, 2004, respectively. After that, HD versions were released for multiple platforms. It is not yet known when the titles will return to the download stores.
